Benny Woodley Music
About
Born in Perth and raised in the rugged Pilbara town of Port Hedland, Benny Woodley Jnr grew up living the true country life—fishing, camping, and surrounded by music. His father, a passionate musician, introduced him to the timeless sounds of Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, George Jones and John Fogerty. At age 12, Benny was handed his first acoustic guitar with the words, “Don’t just look at it”—a moment that sparked a lifelong passion for playing and writing music.
John Fogerty had a profound impact on Benny’s guitar style, driving him to master every CCR song and carve out a sound rooted in authenticity. By 16, Benny was already recording music alongside his father, playing multiple instruments including rhythm guitar, bass, and drums.
While working 12-hour shifts as a dump truck operator at Fortescue Metals Group's Cloudbreak mine at age 19, Benny began writing songs inspired by the raw emotion and storytelling of Hank Williams. Encouraged by his parents, he recorded his first songs and was selected for the 2012 CMAA Academy of Country Music, leading to performances at the iconic Tamworth Country Music Festival.
His debut album, If I Had You, was released in 2014 and went on to win Best Album at the 2018 NAIDOC Music Awards in Perth. In July 2024, Benny released his second album Wanted Man, a bold collection of stories steeped in heartache, resilience, and life in the outback.
Today, Benny continues to perform across Western Australia, delivering powerful solo acoustic sets, tight acoustic band gigs, and full-band shows designed to get crowds dancing. With his roots in the red dirt and his heart in country music, Benny Woodley Jnr brings an honest voice and timeless style to every stage he plays.
